What makes a useful pick here

This is a research based shortlist checked October 12, 2026. We compared published model information and the jobs each layout could suit. We have not cooked the same food on all six, measured temperature stability or ranked them by taste. The Woodridge Pro entry also draws on clearly identified owner observations about pulled pork convenience.

Start with the meals you cook repeatedly. Then decide whether you want pellet fuel, manual charcoal control or charcoal with powered airflow. Finally, check the food and pans against the usable grate dimensions. The year describes when this guide was researched, not a claim that every model was released in 2026.

Choose the routine first. If you enjoy adjusting a charcoal fire, that work can be part of the appeal. If a long pork cook should fit around the rest of your day, investigate a controller and the maintenance routine that comes with it.

For the long pork cook

Traeger Woodridge Pro

The contributed Woodridge Pro owner notes favor its convenience for pulled pork compared with tending the owner's kettle. That observation is useful if pork shoulder is a regular meal. It is not a measured comparison with the other smokers in this guide.

Traeger lists a 500°F maximum, two cooking racks, WiFIRE and grease and ash collection in one keg. Start by checking whether your roast and side pans fit the rack layout. Also compare how you will store pellets, power the cooker and reach the cleaning parts.

Match Woodridge Pro. The base Woodridge, Pro Plus and Elite are different offers.

For smoking and a hotter finish

Weber Searwood 600

Weber publishes a 180°F to 600°F range, DirectFlame cooking and a Manual mode for steady fuel and fan settings with the lid open. Those features make this a candidate when your meals regularly move between gentle cooking and stronger heat.

The lower grate is 24 by 17.5 inches. Use that rectangle to check your food fit before comparing the total area with a larger cooker. We have not measured browning, recovery time or pellet consumption. Consider the exact meal that would put the published features to use.

Match black model 1500120 and the selected 600 style. Searwood XL 600 is a different size.

For charcoal with powered airflow

Masterbuilt Gravity Series 600

Masterbuilt's vertical hopper takes lump charcoal or briquettes, with a fan managing airflow under digital control. Its published range is 225°F to 700°F. Compare this arrangement if you want charcoal fuel but would like help with the repeated airflow adjustments of a long cook.

The controller does not remove ignition, fuel handling, ash or grease cleanup. Check the electrical requirements and the actual model manual before planning a location. Published footprint and hopper figures have differed, so confirm those against the specific model rather than using this article as an installation plan.

Match model MB20041023. Check accessories against the actual package.

For learning manual charcoal smoking

Weber Smokey Mountain 18

Two stacked grates, a water pan and adjustable dampers give the Smokey Mountain a distinct routine. Consider it if you want a dedicated charcoal smoker and are interested in learning how vent changes affect the fire.

Plan access to the lower grate and the work of cleaning the water pan. If fast burgers and corn are your main reason to light charcoal, compare the kettle below before choosing a dedicated smoking layout. No vent response or temperature comparison has been performed for this guide.

Match model 721001, the selected 18 inch size and the smoker style.

For charcoal versatility before a dedicated smoker

Weber Original Kettle Premium 22

A kettle belongs in the comparison when a dedicated smoker would leave another important job uncovered. Weber lists a 22 inch grate, hinged fuel access, a lid thermometer and an enclosed ash catcher on black Premium model 14401001.

For indirect cooking, the food and the fire arrangement share the round grate. Compare that usable space with the cuts you normally cook. Our owner notes describe an unidentified kettle, so they do not establish testing of this exact Premium model.

Match black Premium model 14401001. Original and Master Touch are different configurations.

Make the last comparison with dinner

Plan pulled pork, chicken thighs or a strip steak for two before deciding how much cooker to buy. Check every dish's temperature and timing before promising that a main and sides will share the same chamber.

Compare the full delivered offer, including assembly, cover, fuel, a suitable food thermometer and any necessary cooking insert. Read current manuals for setup and maintenance. Product details and availability can change, and a listing's customer rating cannot replace the fit checks above.
