The five rack layout is the main decision

Pit Boss lists 1,118 square inches across five porcelain coated steel racks, a temperature range of 130°F to 420°F and a 50 pound pellet hopper. The product page identifies the cabinet as PBV3M, SKU 11114.

The useful question is how your actual food fits on those levels. Several shallow trays use a cabinet differently from one tall roast. Check the usable rack width, depth and spacing with the manufacturer before ordering pans. Removing a rack to make room for a tall item changes how much of the advertised total you can use.

Compare smoking space with a searing job

The published 420°F upper setting gives this model a different range from the Searwood 600. Choose around your cooking method rather than treating either maximum as a quality score. A vertical smoking cabinet should be evaluated as its own layout, not as the same open grate arrangement as a grill.

For a steak started in the smoker, the recipe's skillet finish supplies a separate hot cooking stage. Plan that second surface and its equipment rather than assuming every smoker needs to do both jobs.

A large hopper does not promise a full weekend

Hopper capacity tells you how much fuel can be loaded. It does not establish runtime for your temperature, weather or food load. We have not measured pellet use on this model, so this guide gives no hours per fill estimate.

Read the operating instructions for the specified power supply, fuel, ignition and shutdown. Work out where dry pellets will be stored and how you will reach the hopper in the chosen outdoor location. Check the door swing and the room needed to slide out a loaded rack before choosing a narrow corner for the cabinet.

Connectivity and cleanup deserve separate checks

The maker lists WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity through the Pit Boss Grills app, three probe ports and one included meat probe. It also describes rear grease access and an ash management system. Confirm app compatibility and the actual included equipment for the offer you are considering.

Rear access matters when you place the smoker. Leave the room required by its instructions and a workable route to the cleaning parts. Digital temperature control and a large fuel supply do not remove the need to monitor food and maintain the cooker.

Start with two dishes that can share the plan

Pulled pork and smoky baked beans help make the rack question concrete. Check the recipes' temperatures and timing before deciding which stages share the cabinet. Fit each pan with enough access to handle it safely and measure the main with a suitable food thermometer.

If two levels already cover your usual meal, compare the Woodridge Pro before paying for a layout you will rarely use. The meal planner can establish the food quantity first.
