Identify the bronze US model

Traeger's Pro 22 support guide lists the bronze US model TFB57PZBO. It describes the Digital Pro controller and explicitly lists no WiFIRE, pellet sensor or Super Smoke. Do not borrow those features from a newer Traeger product page.

The same support guide distinguishes the included meat probes by manufacture date. Units made before May 2022 came with two, while later units came with one. Check the actual package or used unit rather than relying on an older photograph.

Measure the main grate, then the shelf above it

Traeger lists a main grate of 22 by 19 inches and a second grate of 22 by 7 inches. The combined area does not make one large, flat surface. Check the width and depth of the pans or cuts you intend to cook together, plus the clearance above them.

A pork shoulder and a side dish may ask different things of that upper shelf. Lay out your planned food in its actual pans before deciding whether total advertised area is enough.

Simple controls still come with a routine

A pellet grill needs a suitable outdoor location, the specified power supply, compatible cooking pellets and the maker's startup and shutdown process. The support page links the Pro 22 manual and separate ignition, seasoning and cleaning instructions.

Read those steps before choosing where the grill will live. Plan dry fuel storage, access to the hopper, room to remove the cooking parts and a place for cleaning supplies. Digital control does not replace checking the food or maintaining the cooker.

Compare the feature you will use

  • Phone monitoring. Pro 22 does not provide WiFIRE. A separate food thermometer can monitor food, but it does not add the same grill controls.
  • Revision and condition. On a used grill, match the model plate, manufacture date and installed controller to the manual.
  • Complete cost. Check the included probes, assembly, cover and delivery. Treat an accessory bundle as a separate offer.
  • Cooking plans. Choose around your usual roast and side pans rather than a maximum number of foods from advertising.

A long cook is the useful comparison

Pulled pork and baked beans give a pellet cooker a familiar menu. Check the recipe temperatures before sharing the grate. Our Woodridge Pro owner article describes contributed observations for that different model. Those observations do not establish Pro 22 performance.

About this buying guide
