The two seasoned iron models
| Model | Named size | Full length | Flat bottom width |
|---|---|---|---|
L8SK3 | 10.25 inches | 16.12 inches | 8 inches |
L10SK3 | 12 inches | 18 inches | 9.12 inches |
Lodge publishes separate dimensions for its 10.25 inch and 12 inch models. The named skillet size is not the width of its flat bottom. Both candidates are seasoned cast iron, rather than enamel coated cookware.
Measure the food where it will lie
Put the steaks, potatoes or sandwich portions you usually cook inside a circle matching the flat bottom. Leave the space your method needs for turning and moving food. This is more useful than assuming the named diameter is a full flat cooking area.
The larger pan is worth considering when the usual meal needs that room and your heat source supports it. The smaller pan is worth considering when it fits the food, the storage and the way you lift it. Cooking in batches remains an option.
Handles and filled weight count too
Measure the full length on the grill, under its lid and in the storage spot. Include space to reach the handles with suitable heat protection. An empty pan that fits tightly may be awkward once it holds food.
Check the actual pan weight and practice moving it cold before planning to carry it full and hot. Choose a stable resting surface before taking it off the heat.
Choose the care routine with the pan
Lodge lists these seasoned pans for a stovetop, oven, grill or campfire. Its cleaning guide calls for hand washing, complete drying and a thin layer of oil. Dish soap is allowed, while soaking and dishwasher cleaning are discouraged.
Keep these directions separate from enameled cookware instructions. A handle cover, lid or other accessory can also have limits different from the bare skillet.
Give the pan a regular meal
Pulled pork potato hash gives a skillet a clear job with leftovers. Check the recipe's batch and pan guidance before choosing a size. For a steak meal, the reverse seared strip steak recipe explains its cooking sequence. Select the pan and heat source around that method.
Pair the pan with suitable heat gloves and a place to set it down. Pan size and safe handling belong in the same decision.
About this buying guide
