The basket gives loose pieces a boundary
Weber lists the large 6434 basket as stainless steel, with a height of 2.5 inches, width of 11.8 inches and depth of 13.8 inches. Its perforated construction is a reason to consider it for vegetables that would be awkward to turn individually.
Measure that footprint on the grate with your usual main course beside it. Include room to lift the basket and close the lid. The outside dimensions do not describe a full flat cooking surface, and the openings mean this is not a pan for butter sauces or other liquids.
The skewers organize pieces into a turning unit
OXO describes a set of six stainless steel skewers with flat shafts, wide handles and a nesting design for storage. The maker says the flat shape helps keep food from spinning as you turn it. That is a design claim, rather than a result from our own grill test.
Use the six pieces to plan batches, not to assume six servings. The ginger lime chicken skewer recipe keeps meat separate from vegetables because they can finish at different times. Count all the skewers needed for both before choosing a set or doubling the recipe.
Let the cut and the method decide
A basket is a useful candidate when the pieces are loose, uneven or likely to break during threading. Skewers make more sense when pieces can be cut consistently and threaded securely. Leave the space needed to turn and remove them without pushing another item into the hottest part of the grill.
For sirloin and pepper skewers, plan the meat and vegetable batches first. For a loose vegetable side, start with the cutting and cooking directions in charred broccoli with lemon crumbs. Changing the tool changes how you handle the food and may change the cooking time.
Hot metal needs a landing place
OXO's wide handles are designed for handling with tongs. That does not make them cool during cooking. Check that your tongs can grip the handles securely, and prepare a stable heat suitable tray or resting surface before lifting the food.
The basket also needs a clear route off the grate. Practice the movement while it is cold and empty, then allow for the weight of a filled basket. Suitable heat protection and enough space belong in the purchase decision.
Choose a cleanup routine you will use
Weber lists dishwasher cleaning or soap and water for the 6434. OXO lists the skewers as dishwasher safe. Check that the large basket fits your sink or dishwasher, and that skewers can be loaded without leaving their points exposed.
If most dinners are small, consider whether the basket's storage footprint is justified. If you routinely cook both loose vegetables and kebabs, the two tools do different jobs and need not compete for the same meal.
